Bladder Cancer Charity Day at Marple Golf Club 30th September 2018
First of all may we pass on our grateful thanks to all the many helpers, family members, sponsors, Marple seniors section, Wendy Hibbert the secretary, staff at MGC and of course the teams that made our charity day such a success.
Thanks to Julie and her team for the food on the day which was well received by all with 1 or 2 second helpings in there, so waistbands will be measured.
We have raised in total the grand sum of £1540 which is a magnificent amount to be sent to the charity, they will also claim gift aid, taking the total to approx. £1900
The winning team Pat Dunion and his merry men including MGC Captain Mark Oldfield scored 89 points just beating on a card play-off the Spar team in second place headed by Alex Brown. In third place was Mike Field the president of MGC playing with his wife Linda and their partners Malcolm and Sue Chapman with 86 points.
We have to say we have been overwhelmed with the generosity of all the people involved and the many donations of prizes and cash received which has made it all worthwhile and will be put to good use by the Bladder Cancer charity to help others affected by the disease.
Once again many thanks to all involved particularly Conrad and Heather Barnard. Heather harassed all the players to buy raffle tickets. Asking people to buy a strip or was it the other way round? Also our daughter Victoria Leigh who designed the order of play and the format sheets with the sponsor boards for the day which I think certainly helped the players round the course.
There were 15 teams playing and there could have been more. However as this was the first such event we did not want to be over-ambitious. We hope to repeat it next year, and make it a bigger day.
